DO NOT ATTEMPT UNLESS YOU ARE AN ADVANCED USER!! REQUIRES KNOWLEDGE OF DOS AND OPERATING SYSTEMS. IF IN DOUBT, DO NOT ATTEMPT OR FIND AN EXPERIENCED USER TO DO IT FOR YOU!

For IE4.x:
Click Start>>Shut Down>>Restart in MS-DOS mode>>OK.
At the DOS prompt, enter:
"del c:\windows\tempor~1\index.dat" (without the quotes)
Press Enter. Reboot. Windows will create a new, "empty" index.dat file.

For IE5.x or 6.x:
Click Start>>Shut Down>>Restart in MS-DOS mode>>OK.
At the DOS prompt, enter:
"del c:\windows\tempor~1\content.ie5\index.dat" (without the quotes)
Press Enter. Reboot. Windows will create a new, "empty" index.dat file.

You can also try Spider, a freeware program for Windows 9x/NT/ME/2000 that can clean your index.dat file. However, be aware that installing this program can tip someone off to the fact that something suspicious has been happening. Be extremely cautious!
